Since it was established in 1764, Baccarat has
continued producing prize-winning crystal that sparkles and impresses the eye.
The skill and the imagination of the various elegant styles that have emerged

Baccarat has personified a certain image of French
culture all over the world. Throughout the centuries crystal signed by Baccarat
has become synonymous with the social graces. Kings, sultans, presidents,
ambassadors and czars from all cultures have had their Baccarat place settings
and stemware made in the small town of Baccarat. Czar Nicholas II had his own
engraved and gold wine glasses, President Roosevelt selected Baccarat for the
White House and Winston Churchill used Baccarat in Whitehall.
In the factory, Compagnie des Cristalleries de
Baccarat, the proper proportions of silica (55%), lead (32%) and potassium
(13%) are mixed to create the perfect crystal. If the lead content is too high
the glass becomes green, too little and the cutting process causes the crystal
to loose its brilliance. Other diverse chemicals are sometimes used for color:
cobalt for blue, iron or arsenic for yellow, manganese for rose, trace amounts
of uranium for blue-green or nickel for a violet color. ALL imperfect pieces are
smashed and added to the mix to recycle them. Every piece of Baccarat leaves
here as a perfect example of crystal making artistry.
